Movie At The Library

See St. Vincent at the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library, 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Maggie, a single mother, moves into a new home in Brooklyn with her 12-year-old son, Oliver. Forced to work long hours, she has no choice but to leave Oliver in the care of their new neighbor, Vincent, a retired curmudgeon with a desire for alcohol and gambling. Metamorphoses

LIU Post’s theatre company presents Metamorphoses by Mary Zimmerman. A modern translation of the classic Ovid poem. The play will be performed from March 5 to 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the Little Theatre Mainstage (A matinee will be offered on March 6 at 2 p.m. and March 8 at 3 p.m.). Art Show and Champagne Brunch

The third annual spring art show will take place at Oakcliff Sailing Center, 2 South Exhibit Space, Oyster Bay, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year’s theme is The Seashore: the artists and chef have been challenged to depict their vision of that special area where the sea meets the shore. They will explore different perspectives: a family enjoying a picnic on Fire Island, a sea creature crawling onto the sands, a bird cruising toward the sea or a sailor returning from that sea. Artwork will be for sale and donations to the nonprofit Oakcliff Sailing Incorporated will be happily accepted. RSVP: 516-802-0368 or race@oakcliffsailing.org.

UCPN Polar Bear Plunge

The Coach Grill and Tavern is participating in the UCPN Polar Bear Plunge for the fifth year. Festivities begin at 1 p.m. and the plunge takes place at 2 p.m. at Teddy Roosevelt Beach in Oyster Bay. Free hot dogs, soup, coffee and hot chocolate is served to everyone at the plunge. Anyone willing to take the plunge can receive one free tap beer at the Coach Grill. There will also be a special polar bear menu for the after party at the Coach, which is always a great time.

The United Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County is an independent non-profit health agency serving more than1,800 children and adults with cerebral palsy, developmental and other disabilities. Register and fundraise online at www.ucpn.org.

Children’s Habitat Program

Nature can be the medium for art. Supplies will be provided for kids to create what their imagination desires. The suggested donation is $10. From 11 a.m. to noon at Bailey Arboretum, 194 Bayville Rd., Lattingtown, www.baileyarboretum.org.

Family Nature Walk

Historical Lecture

The Oyster Bay Historical Society hosts a talk by Bob Doxsee on the history of the Doxsee Sea Clam Company. James Harvey Doxsee, with his brother-in-law Selah Whitman, founded the Doxsee Clam and Seafood Canning Company in Islip at the close of the American Civil War, becoming the first Long Island enterprise to can hard shell clams. The lecture and slide program, The History of the Doxsee Sea Clam Company History, begins at 2 p.m. in the Oyster Bay Historical Society’s Angela Koenig Center at 20 Summit St. in Oyster Bay. Roaring Lion

Join A Time for Kids for a fun, educational hour with your preschooler (18 months-2 years w/ adult) at the Oyster Bay East Norwich Library, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Special activities include singing, dancing, storytelling and making a “roaring lion” craft. Registration began in February for OB-EN residents and begins on March 8 for nonresidents, space permitting. Please stop by the children’s room or call the library at 516-922-1212 to register.

Irish Soda Bread

Smarter Social Security Benefits

An AARP survey conducted in 2012 determined that only about half of the respondents who were either married or had ever been married were aware that they were entitled to spousal benefits under the Social Security program. An individual who has not worked or who has minimal wages is entitled to 50 percent of his or her spouse’s full benefit.
