According to a recently released report from the Garden City Police Department, the past four months have seen numerous thefts throughout Nassau County of tires and rims from 2014 and 2015 Mercedes Benz vehicles. Village law enforcement officials say that during the past month, there have been two occurrences in Garden City. The Garden City Police Department is working with the Nassau County Police Department in the investigation of these larcenies.
Police Commissioner Kenneth Jackson recommends that owners of late model Mercedes Benz vehicles take necessary precautionary measures to prevent these thefts. Jackson says the installation of wheel locks will make it very difficult to remove the tires from a vehicle and that vehicle motion sensor alarms, if so equipped, should be activated. He also adds that in addition, driveway spotlights, motion detector lights and security camera systems are useful tools that may assist in the deterrence of these crimes. Residents are urged by the police department to dial 911 to report all suspicious activities.
