Levittown’s Division Avenue High School Science Olympiad team, under the direction of teacher Gerard Marzigliano, secured a sixth-place ranking at the Nassau East Science Olympiad Regional Competition and will now compete at the New York State Finals at LeMoyne College in Syracuse on March 13-14.
During the regionals, the team acquired medals in 15 out of 20 events, qualifying for the state-level competition for the seventh consecutive year.
MacArthur High School’s team also made a strong showing, winning 14 medals, but will not advance to the finals. Winners included Eduardo Sandoval and Chris Simonetti (Disease Detectives); Sabrina Chasen Mary Kate DiNorcia, Nick Nugent and Victoria Pavsic (Air Trajectory); Mary Kate DiNorcia, Victoria Pavsic Grace Shin and Chris Simonetti (It’s About Time); Emily Thomas and Casey Butcher (Scrambler); and Jared Schwartz and Maggie Liu (Entomology).
