Pierce, Edward T., “Grampy”- Edward T. Pierce, DMD, 89, of Manhasset, Southampton, NY and Jensen Beach, FL passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015.
Born July 2, 1925 in Manhasset to Anna Marion and William Joseph Pierce. Ed graduated from Xavier Military Academy in New York City and served our country as an Ensign on US Naval Ship and destroyer in the Pacific, The USS Nelson during World War ll. He graduated from Fordham University and Tufts Dental School. He practiced in Manhasset for 45 years as an orthodontist.
Former president of the New York State Society of Orthodontics, Past Commodore of Port Washington Yacht Club, former Director of the Dime Savings Bank, member of the Knights of Columbus, member of the American Legion, Lt. Governor of Kiwanis International and Past Commander of the Manhasset Bay Power Squadron. He was an avid boater, enjoyed fishing and trapshooting. Known for being positive, appreciative and having a great sense of humor. He loved his great big family more than anything else.
He married the former Janice Sellars on August 25, 1951. He is survived by his wife, Janice and his seven children, son Roger and wife Fran Mele, daughter Daphne and husband “Skip” Cannata, son Stevan, son Jeffrey and wife Barbara Brady, daughter Holly and husband Rich Browne, daughter Cynthia and husband Joe McGuinness, daughter Deidra and husband Chris Maleno as well as 20 grandchildren, Erin and Matt Cannata, Tom and Marie Pierce, Michael Pierce, Katie and Chris Wootton, Kevin, Dan, Eileen, Tim, Brendan, Michael, Ryan Browne, Megan, Patrick, Conor McGuinness and Max, Alex and Megan Maleno as well as four brothers and sisters, brother Bill and Pauline Pierce, sister Bernadette, brother John and sister, Sister Ann Marie Pierce, IHM. Predeceased by son baby Edward at one month.
