Summit Lane Elementary School students in Levittown recently exceeded their goal of raising $4,000 for the American Heart Association and, as promised, gathered in the gymnasium to paint Principal Keith Squillacioti.
“You showed how big your hearts are,” said physical education teacher Cynthia Dano. “Each of you tried to do something that benefitted someone else’s health.”
This is the 15th year that Summit Lane has participated in the annual American Heart Association’s Jump Rope/Hoops for Heart event. Last year, the school raised $2,500 and set out to exceed that number by setting a goal of $4,000. Two hundred and twenty students collected $6,530, the school’s largest amount of donations to date.
During the assembly, the top three fundraisers from each class chose a color of dry paint to throw on Squillacioti, who ended up with a psychedelic–colored T-shirt. In addition, students painted other staff members throughout the day as a bonus for their efforts.
The top 10 fundraisers included: Chris Pelletier ($325), Anthony Ventrelli ($300), Vincent Horan ($290), Peter Roidis, Allessandrea DeBois, Thomas Kruk, Kailey McKinney, Jaren Reiter, James Armellino and Cody Havlik.
