Named 2015 Citizen of the Year by chamber
The Garden City Chamber of Commerce will honor Vinny Muldoon on Friday, May 8, as 2015 “Citizen of the Year.” He, along with his wife Dina, are owners of the Old World Quality Corporation. Muldoon will be celebrated along with three other honorees: Robert Cunningham is a Community Achievement Award recipient, Patrick Longo is Business Person of the Year and Dr. Robert A. Scott will receive the President’s Award at the Chamber’s 13th annual Pineapple Ball at the Garden City Hotel. The Pineapple Ball is Garden City’s premier gala celebrating the vitality of business and community and will be held from 7 p.m. to midnight.
The prestigious Citizen of the Year award was established in 1970 to recognize outstanding philanthropic efforts and services which have contributed to the high standards and quality of life in the Village of Garden City and beyond. Within the community, Muldoon is well known for his pro bono repairs on the St. Paul’s clock tower.
“While it’s never going to tell the time again,” he said. “We’re going to do the best we possibly can to get it looking like it used to.”
Muldoon’s services to the community did not stop with the restoration of St. Paul’s clock tower. With his team from Old World Quality, he has completed the village’s 9/11 Memorial. Within the village and beyond, he has spearheaded several fundraisers for families in need of special construction services following horrific accidents so that those affected might function in their homes.
This past September, Muldoon and his crew were featured on the NBC home improvement show, George to the Rescue. He and his crew were shown providing repairs and a full house custom renovation enabling a Floral Park elementary school teacher with multiple sclerosis to function in her newly equipped home. Over these past months, Muldoon and the Old World Quality team have been assisting the Garden City Chamber with refurbishing needs of the chamber’s historic Garden City Toll Lodge office. Critical repairs to pavers surrounding the building were provided pro bono by this Garden City businessman.
Old World Quality was established in 1994 with the premise that their specialty would be restoring old homes and building new ones with all the modern amenities. “We are a full service general contractor providing everything from small repairs through full house renovations and custom new home constructions,” Muldoon explained. “Our motto is very simple: integrity, the highest quality of product possible and a lifetime of service to the customer.”
In 2014, Vinny and Dina Muldoon celebrated Old World Quality’s 20th anniversary. They are proud to have developed a great team of top quality people and craftsmen in every trade. They feel that integrity and trust is everything in life and business.
“We model our entire company on this philosophy.”
Muldoon said the thing that means so much to him and Dina is not only Old World Quality’s customer base that they have developed but the honor to have met so many great people and build a lifetime of friendships with them.
“The great news is that we are only getting started,” he exclaimed.
Originally from County Galway, Ireland, Muldoon was quick to say, “I am the proudest man in the world to call this great town home. I am living the ‘American Dream.’ The USA is without question the greatest country in the world and we are all blessed to live in it.”
