Clavin to Speak at Chamber Luncheon
On Wednesday, March 25, Town of Hempstead Receiver of Taxes Donald X. Clavin will the be the keynote speaker at the Garden City Chamber of Commerce at its annual meeting and luncheon program. The event will take place at the Garden City Hotel. An election of proposed officers and director candidates for forthcoming terms on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors will also take place. Candidates for election by two-thirds of the chamber membership present will also be conducted in accordance with Chamber B-Laws. Candidates for Chamber officers are: Tom McCambridge (president); John Appelt (first vice president); Joanne K. Adams (second vice president); Salvatore Armao (treasurer). Additionally, Stephanie Cullum will serve on the executive board as an immediate past president. Director Candidates for election are: Jack Craven, Patricia Donnelly, Dr. Robert Feirsen, Sean Martens, John Pittoni, Esq. and Alan Schwartz; Esq. Kristen Laird has been appointed to fill a vacancy on the board of directors.
There will be a member showcase to begin at 11:30 a.m. and continue through the networking reception Lunch will be served promptly at 12:30 p.m. Advance reservations at $65 per person are required. Second Meeting Of Chapter Chat
Come to the library from 4 to 5 p.m. for the second meeting of Chapter Chat. At the meeting children will be discussing the Chris Kreie book There are No Figure Eights in Hockey (A Victory School Superstars book). This book discussion is open to children in grade 2. Registration is underway. Parents can sign up current second -graders in the Children’s Room. A beverage and snack will be provided. The meeting is an hour long. Please arrive promptly. Spaghetti & Meatball Cake
The Baking Coach will be at the Library on Saturday, March 28 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. to teach YAs how to make a cake which looks like pasta and tastes like cake. Serve it to someone for April Fool’s Day. Registration begins on Saturday, March 14 online on Eventkeeper. This program is limited to 24 YAs. Marvelous Movie Matinée
A screening of the 2014 espionage thriller A Most Wanted Man starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rachel McAdams and Willem Dafoe will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Garden City Public Library. A Parent-Child Book Discussion
The Bonding Bookworms Parent-Child Book Discussion group will meet from 6 to7 p.m. Gennifer Choldenko’s Al Capone Does My Shirts will be discussed. The program is for children presently enrolled in grades 4 and 5 and a parent, grandparent, guardian, or other special adult. The program is an hour. Registration began on Monday, Jan. 5 at 9:30 a.m. in the Children’s Room. Bring a brown bag dinner. A beverage and snack will be provided. Please arrive promptly. Intro To The iPad And iPhone
Do you have an iPad or iPhone and still don’t know how to use it? Do you have questions on the different applications and uses of your iPad or iPhone? Then this class is for you. Bring these items to the class if you have one but if you don’t and want to learn more about them you are welcome as well. This class is free and open to any senior who is a resident of the Incorporate Village of Garden City. Lego Drop-In Club
The Garden City Public Library’s Children’s Department will be holding a meeting for this monthly club that is for children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. The club will meet on the following Wednesday afternoon from 4 to 5 p.m.: May 6. No registration is required, but space is limited. The Drop-In Lego Club was made possible through the generosity of the Friends of the Garden City Public Library as well as through Lego donations from library patrons. Six-hour course were conducted by AAA in the Garden City office located at 229 7th St. After March 1, courses will now be held in Homewood Suites by Hilton located at 40 Westbury Ave. in Carle Place.
