On Sunday, March 29, Adelphi University’s Performing Arts Center (AUPAC) will be hosting Swingtime!, a rousing event featuring the internationally renowned Jive Aces, with special guests The Tinseltown Jitterbugs (a troupe of high-energy swing dancers) and Hollywood vocalist Makinna Ridgway. The show kicks off at 3 p.m. on the Westerman Stage of the concert hall located at One South Ave. in Garden City.
Direct from London, The Jive Aces are known for their superb musicianship, high energy, original songs and fresh arrangements of swing/jive/R&B classics by such greats as Louis Prima, Cab Calloway, Bobby Darin, Louis Armstrong, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr.
Having become the first-ever band to reach the semifinals of Britain’s Got Talent in 2012, following up with a performance for Her Majesty The Queen as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and performances for the Olympic and Paralympic celebrations, The Jive Aces have established themselves as the UK’s top jive and swing band. According to Swingtime Magazine, the Jive Aces are “…easily one of the best hot, young, swing bands from Europe that’s taking America by storm.”
Together for over a decade, The Jive Aces have worked with many of the top names in show business, including John Travolta, Isaac Hayes, Van Morrison, Count Basie Orchestra, Keely Smith, Priscilla Presley and Chuck Berry. This popular group has performed at thousands of festivals, theaters and events throughout the UK, Europe and the U.S., as well as Japan, Israel, South Africa, Morocco and the Caribbean.
The group has been featured on hundreds of TV and radio shows, including appearances on CNN, ABC’s Good Morning Los Angeles, BBC Radio 2, NBC’s Holy Smoke, BBC 1 TV and more. They have released seven studio albums, one dance compilation and also a skiffle EP.
