DSC_4436Author Peter Lourie visited Robbins Lane Elementary in Syosset on Friday, March 20 and captivated students in grades K-5 with tales of his adventures.

DSC_4451Lourie, an explorer, used vivid detail in telling of his experiences searching for lost treasure, swimming with manatees, canoing on the Hudson River and his writing process.

The globe-trotting author brought with him his 18-foot canoe and camping equipment to highlight some of his stories.

Selected students (two per grade) were invited to eat lunch with Lourie. During that time, they inquired about his adventures and what he does when he gets frustrated with his writing. He encouraged the students to write every day and to keep practicing since writing takes a lot of work. All students received a signed copy of one of Lourie’s books (Shark Dive for students in K-2 and The Lost Treasure of Captain Kidd for students in grades 3-5.) Students and staff alike thought Lourie was a terrific speaker.DSC_4484
