Did you read Trustee Silver’s perspective on the Franklin Court property sale to the Mews owners?
Essentially he said, I thought it was a “win-win” situation. In hindsight I was wrong. I should have asked questions about “how the property was being used” and “how the sale would impact on the neighborhood.” I did not. But I plea for “perspective.” I’m a volunteer. The job of a trustee is demanding and time consuming. If the “job standard is infallibility and the penalty for falling short is vilification, character attack or worse,” people won’t volunteer for this job.
Trustee Silver, you protest too much. I volunteered to become a trustee because of a love of this village and the desire to serve the public. My standard was as follows; Do your homework, understand the issues, disclose them to the public, exercise prudent judgement, make decisions for the common good, be accountable for them and accept criticism with grace as harsh as it might be. I didn’t think then nor do I think now that is too high of a standard to ask of a volunteer who seeks to become a trustee.
Is this too much to ask?
