Sister Maria Rose Kelly, IHM, a good friend of our daughter, has a brother, Frank, living in The Harrison House in Mineola.

Evelyn Atanas, a local realtor, lives on Temple Street in Williston Park. She is the past president of the Williston Chamber of Commerce. She tells me that the Third Precinct cops said that she did a great job investigating the recent break-in of her house. For her recent birthday, Evelyn’s children treated her to a dinner and a show in New York City.

That friendly lady at the front door of the Jackson Avenue School is Donna Barich. She is called the greeter and she makes all adults sign her book when they enter the school. She lives on Jerome Avenue.

Ron and Janet Baker of Raft Avenue recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They have lived in Mineola for 46 years.

Josephine Pandolfo for 17 years was a neighbor of our son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Laurie Sanders, in the Wyndham in
Garden City.

That, of course, reminds me of my old joke. How close was Josephine to Napoleon? They were just a bone apart.

Angelo Aragona is an electrical contractor. He and his wife, Joan, have lived on Pershing Parkway for the last 49 years.

Saw a good movie the other day called, The Queen, about the life and death of Princess Diana and the miserable treatment she received in life and death from the Royal Family in Britain. When she died, the Queen Mother did not want to declare a national holiday because she was not a member of the Royal Family. Someone in the Royal Household said, “This woman is as much of a problem dead as she was alive.”

Katherine Andrews served 30 years in the surrogate court. She is a great friend of Fran Dempsey. Fran’s husband, William, was a judge in the family court for many years. Ms. Andrews lives on Lincoln Avenue.
Ann Forte of Mineola has been a chiropractor for 25 years. Her husband, Rich, is the past president of the County Seat Kiwanis Club. Ann was big into running and is working on the planned New Hyde Park-Mineola Run, scheduled for July. Their son, Richard, is studying in Georgia to be a chiropractor, while their daughter, Nicole, attends Adelphi University, majoring in exercise science.

Caren Donatelli lives in Mineola. She and her son, Joshua, who goes to kindergarten, are both eagerly awaiting the opening of the Mineola Pool. Caren works in the art department of Anton Media Group.

Molly Azzolini tells me how wonderful her neighbors on Clinton Avenue have been to her and to others in the area, especially Michael Vezzi.
Lou Sanders, who has his journalism degree from NYU, and his wife, Grace, a graduate of Adelphi, founded the Mineola American in 1952, giving the village its first successful newspaper. Lou and Grace have lived in Mineola for 60 years, and his popular column is a signature feature of this paper.
