The Massapequa High School Music Department delighted audiences by taking them back in time to Edwardian London with its lovely production of My Fair Lady, adapted from George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion with lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe.

Eliza, Colonel Pickering, Professor Higgins and Mrs. Higgins, played by Courtney Taylor.

It tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a working-class flower girl who takes speech lessons from an arrogant phonetics professor, Henry Higgins, so that she may speak “proper” English and pass as a refined lady among the high social classes.

The character of Eliza was played by Hannah Bentivegna, opposite Brian Bernhard as Professor Henry Higgins. Other lead roles were Colonel Pickering played by William Halstead, Freddy Eynsford-Hill, played by Charlie McGrath, and Alfie Doolittle, Eliza’s father, played by William Meurer. Everyone involved in the production brought the musical to life with exquisite costumes, gorgeous set designs and memorable performances, including the musical’s beloved songs, “Wouldn’t It Be Lovely,” ‘The Rain in Spain” and “I Could Have Danced All Night.”

The production was directed by the district’s English Curriculum Associate Kevin Harrington, who has directed more than 300 musicals throughout his career.
