Three teams from Syosset’s South Woods Middle School competed in the Science Olympiad Western Long Island Regionals held at Wisdom Lane Middle School in Levittown. Team 1 from South Woods came in second place out of 42 teams, earning them a spot in the state competition at Minoa High School in East Syracuse. The other two South Woods teams came in seventh and eighth place out of 42.

Members of Team 1 include Maanuv Allu, Eugene Aspiras, Syndey Chen, Rebecca Geiger, Ben Huang, Jason Lan, Cole Menchel, Alina Pratkin, Merin Thomas, Katrina Tun, Vanessa Vija, Grace Wang, Emily Wong, Yannan Xu and Andy Yang. The team won 11 events and took home 22 medals. The other two teams scooped up 12 medals in the contest.
