Jericho District’s Breakfast Exemption

Summer_kids_eat_lunch_-_Flickr_-_USDAgov[1]The federal and state governments have mandated that all school districts implement a breakfast program for students.

Based on a survey of Jericho School District sent to parents of children currently enrolled in K-5 in the Cantiague and Seaman elementary schools, the district is requesting an exemption from the breakfast program for these schools for the 2015-2016 school year. The results of the survey indicate that more than 80 percent of those responding would not use the program.

The George Jackson Elementary School had a pilot breakfast program for the first six months of the 2008-2009 school year. The average daily participation was 10 for the six-month period, thereby granting Jackson Elementary School exempt from the breakfast program.

If any parents have questions or concerns regarding the request for the one year exemption, contact Assistant Superintendent for Business Victor P. Manuel at 516-203-3600 ext. 3214 or Tracy Gilet, school lunch manager, ext. 3258.
