Painting Class
Paint and Main is hosting painting classes from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The class, for children from ages 6 to 16, includes step-by-step instructions to complete the painting featured. The class includes an instructor, 16 x 20 inch canvas, paint, brushes, apron, set-up and clean-up. Nut-free snacks and water bottles welcome. Preregistration is required for this class. Those attending are asked to arrive 10 minutes early. Additional parking and entrance is in rear (next to Moby Drugstore). The class is $25 per person. Cake Creations
The Chocolate Duck, 310 Main St., Farmingdale, is hosting cupcake and basic cake pop making workshops from 7 to 9 p.m. Learn the latest dessert craze from a professional pastry chef. Attendees will bake and decorate them. Learn the basic techniques as well as latest up to date trends from fondant to butter creme. Another class will be held on Thursday, April 16. Chamber-Music Trio
The Weiss-Lee-Kalayjian Trio will perform a free concert at Farmingdale State College at 7 p.m., in the Little Theatre at Roosevelt Hall. Among other selections, the trio will perform Beethoven’s “Piano Trio No. 7.” The musicians are all highly sought-after soloists and award-winning chamber musicians. Pianist Orion Weiss has performed with major American orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Boston Symphony, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He also toured Israel with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Weiss was named Young Artist of the Year by the Classical Recording Foundation in 2010. His recordings include a recital album of Dvorak, Prokofiev, and Bartok, and the complete George Gershwin portfolio for piano and orchestra in collaboration with the Buffalo Philharmonic. Vassar College professor, violinist Jessica Lee, owns the first-prize award from the Concert Artists Guild International Competition. She has given recitals at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium, and performed at music festivals in Bridgehampton.

Volunteer Fair
Farmingdale State College will host the 7th Annual Long Island Volunteer Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Roosevelt Hall. More than 60 nonprofit agencies will host exhibits aimed at recruiting campus and off-campus volunteers for various community projects. On-scene service projects on emergency preparedness and storm water pollution will also be presented. Financial Mathematics
Farmingdale State College is hosting a Conference in Financial Mathematics from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. College President W. Hubert Keen lauded the mathematics department for creating this conference, saying “The conference brings an impressive array of presenters and participants…” The conference will be held in the Campus Center Ballroom. There is a $30 registration fee; it is free for Farmingdale students who register by the deadline.

Spring Social
The Long Island Authors and Writers Society is hosting its annual Spring Social at the Library Cafe, located at 274 Main Street in Farmingdale. Authors and aspiring authors as well as anyone just looking to social are welcome to attend and meet writers from all over Long Island. The Library Cafe is fashioned after an Uptown Manhattan Lounge and offers a full menu and their specialty martinis named after famous authors.
