New Blood Comes To Board

Makrinos and Delany to serve as village trustees

Garden City residents Stephen S. Makrinos and John M. Delany can soon add another position to their résumé of volunteerism—Garden City village trustee.

Makrinos, who was selected and nominated by the Western Property Owners’ Association (WPOA) back in January, will replace outgoing Mayor John J. Watras in the West. Delany, who Mayor-elect Nicholas P. Episcopia appointed to fill an open seat, will replace outgoing Trustee Dennis C. Donnelly in the East.

A graduate of Babson College, where he majored in finance, investments accounting and management information systems, Makrinos later earned a master of science degree in economics from Pace University’s Lubin School of Business. He has worked in the finance industry since 1993, currently as a vice president/executive director with Goldman Sachs & Co.

Makrinos has been a WPOA representative on the Citizens Budget Review Advisory Committee since 2010 and has served as its chair. He has also served as the WPOA’s director of finance and taxes since 2009, as a soccer and basketball coach with Garden City Athletic Association Intramurals and as a member of the Parish Council of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. Paul.

Delany, a retired corporate attorney and insurance executive, earned degrees at both Villanova University and St. John’s Law School.

A resident of the village for more than four decades, Delany is currently serving his second term as an Eastern Property Owners’ Association (EPOA) director. He has also been a member of the Citizens Budget Review Advisory Committee since 2013. He also served as a Garden City Library Board Trustee (1985 to 2006), serving as chairman from 2003 to 2006.

Delany was recently elected Deputy Grand Knight of the Bishop Baldwin Council of the Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph’s Parish in Garden City.

Both gentlemen took their oaths of office, alongside incumbent trustees Richard V. Silver and John A. DeMaro and Mayor-elect Episcopia, during the annual organizational meeting held on Monday, April 6, at village hall.
