It was all about girl power for 12 outstanding Long Island women.

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and his wife, Linda, recently recognized 12 distinguished women of Nassau County in a special ceremony held at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building in Mineola.

Among them was Massapequa Park artist Debbie Viola, who was recently commissioned to assist in the repainting of St. Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Centre. Viola also appeared in the Jan. 7 issue of the Massapequa Observer in a profile piece titled “Painting Her Dream.”

Another artist, Lori Horowitz, currently lives in Dix Hills, but owns Studio 5404, an art gallery in Massapequa. Horowitz has shown many successful exhibits and residents of the South Shore appreciate her talent and eye for art.

“It’s my honor to recognize extraordinary citizens who have volunteered to help feed and clothe neighbors, keep others safe during emergencies, raise money for charitable causes, enhance the lives of our children and help protect neglected animals,” said Mangano. “You are outstanding neighbors, friends and community members. I would like to thank each and every one of you for your selfless acts of kindness and the personal sacrifices you have made for others.”
