The three candidates are bidding for the Manhasset Library trustee seat in today’s April 15 election The three candidates Gloria Su, Bill Harvey are running against incumbent Donald O’Brien, the current incumbent. Voting will take place at the Manhasset Public Library from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Community at 30 Onderdonk Ave. All registered Manhasset residents are urged to cast their vote.The library has put forth a budget increase of 1.86 percent. The increase if approved will be paid on your School Tax Bill according to the assessment value of your Manhasset residence; these are the only two categories assessed on your School Tax Bill. General taxes are composed of water, county taxes, town General Fund, police, fire and parks levies.
O’Brien who is currently treasurer of the Manhasset Public Library board, as well as Commissioner of the Manhasset Lakeville Fire and Water District, was found to be silent a number of pointed questions at the Library Budget Review on April 1 and refused to answer according to published letter in the Manhasset Press Letter to the Editor in the April 8 issue.
The passage of the library budget and the school budget will constitute your new School Tax Bill for 2015-16. Both budgets fall under the 2 percent tax cap which when combined will provide your new tax bill. School taxes are due twice a year, on April 1 and October 1.
