Every summer, Steppingstone Park is transformed into a perfect outdoor venue, providing an opportunity to see some of the most outstanding entertainment under the stars while looking out on beautiful Long Island Sound. You will be delighted to know that the Great Neck Park District Summer Performing Arts series has another magical summer in store for you. The extraordinary line-up includes a variety of concerts and cultural performances on Saturday and Sunday evenings, as well as two special Thursday evenings, through Labor Day weekend. This summer promises to be a unique experience for everyone. All concerts begin at 8 p.m., unless otherwise specified. Here is a preview (all shows are subject to change) of what you will be seeing this summer at Steppingstone.
Saturday, July 4, Dean Karahalis & the Concert Pops, comprised of New York’s finest musicians, many of whom regularly perform on Broadway and at the Metropolitan Opera, will help celebrate our country’s independence.
There are absolutely no fireworks permitted in Steppingstone Park or any other Park District park or facility, at any time.
Sunday, July 5, Amy Helm and The Handsome Strangers play. Amy is a founding member of the band, Ollabelle and the daughter of music legend Levon Helm.
Thursday, July 9, Yacht Rock Revue will be rocking you to the music of the ’70s and ’80s with bands like Hall and Oates, Steely Dan and Toto.
Saturday, July 11, The Lovin’ Spoonful will be playing the hits that brought them to the top of the music charts, with songs such as “Do You Believe In Magic,” “You Didn’t Have to Be So Nice” and “Summer In The City.”
Sunday, July 12, Gary Puckett & The Union Gap entertain. Gary’s unmistakable signature voice garnered six consecutive gold records with “Young Girl,” “Woman Woman” and “Lady Willpower.”
Saturday, July 18, Michael DelGuidice & Big Shot play. Celebrating the Music of Billy Joel. Michael DelGuidice, who tours with Billy Joel himself, plays acoustic guitar, sings vocals and is backed by some of the most dynamic and seasoned musicians in the industry.
Sunday, July 19, it’s The Cameos. Revisit the ’50s and ’60s oldies with doo wop songs, such as “You Belong to Me,” “My Own True Love” and “Life is But a Dream.”
Saturday, July 25, the Meade Brothers will play a broad range of tunes from the ’50s through the ’70s.
Sunday, July 26, it’s the New York Chinese Cultural Center. Musicians and dancers will perform a dynamic range of Chinese cultural artistry.
Saturday, Aug. 1, see TUSK, the Ultimate Fleetwood Mac Tribute and they will perform the hits of Fleetwood Mac such as “Landslide,” “Rhiannon” and “Go Your Own Way.”
Sunday, Aug. 2, the Plaza Productions presents West Side Story. A fully staged production of this great love story including the Broadway musical songs we all know including “Maria,” “I Feel Pretty” and “Tonight.”
Thursday, Aug. 6, hear Roger McGuinn, lead singer and guitarist of the groundbreaking folk-rock band The Byrds.
Saturday, Aug. 8, it’s Lunasa, A Night of Irish Music. This quintet is one of the most popular bands on the international Celtic music scene.
Saturday, Aug. 15, it’s the ’60s Rock Experience, a recreation of performances by Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Mick Jagger, Grace Slick, Carlos Santana, Credence Clearwater and others.
Sunday, Aug. 16, the North Shore Music Festival presents two shortened Puccini operas.
Saturday, Aug. 22, come to Night Fever, the Tribute to the Bee Gees. This band looks and sounds just like the Bee Gees. You will hear songs such as “I Started A Joke,” “Jive Talking” and “You Should Be Dancing.”
For Sunday, Aug. 23, it’s a Persian Concert, with the artist to be announced (performed at North Hempstead Park.
Saturday, Aug. 29, it’s Arturo O’Farrill, and the Afro/Cuban Orchestra has performed all over the world and won a 2015 Grammy for Best Latin Jazz Album.
Sunday, Aug. 30, listen to the Band of Long Island with Conductor Michael Flamhaft; they present a program filled with traditional and classical arrangements.
Saturday, Sept. 5, it’s the Dave Sear and Tom Chapin Folk Festival. Tom Chapin headlines our Folk Festival hosted by Dave Sear. The New York Times call Tom Chapin “one of the great personalities in contemporary folk music.
Sunday, Sept. 6, enjoy Neil Berg’s 100 Years of Broadway. Back by popular demand, you will hear the music of Porter, Gershwin, Rodgers & Hammerstein and more, performed by a cast of Broadway stars accompanied by an all-star band.
All performances are for Great Neck Park District residents only. Admission is free to Park District residents with a valid park card. Park cards will be checked when parking and at the gate. Each park card holder is allowed to bring two guests into the park, who must be signed-in. In case of rain, check www.cancellations.com or www.greatneckparks.org for location of performance. Free bus service continues to be available to Steppingstone and return buses start 10 minutes after the show ends.
