The Major Case Bureau reports the details of an arrest for Grand Larceny that occurred in Roslyn and Westbury from 2012 to 2014.
According to the Crime Against Property detectives, Michael McGriff of Freeport, was employed as a sales agent for Port Motors – 1036 Northern Blvd. and Auto Galleria – 500 Old Country Road, Westbury. The defendant made at least 27 separate contracts with customers to purchase motor vehicles, detectives said. The defendant, detectives added, would receive U.S. currency as down payments for the vehicles, but would keep the money for his own personal gain. The defendant, detectives said, would further alter credit applications stating that the customers gave a lower down payment amount and or the customers made a higher salary. Port Motors experienced a loss in excess of $170,000 while Auto Galleria suffered a loss in excess of $5000.
After an investigation by the Crime Against Property Squad in conjunction with the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office defendant McGriff was arrested on April 21, 2015 at 7:55 am in East Garden City without further incident.
McGriff is being charged with six (6) counts of Grand Larceny third degree, Possession of a Forged Instrument second degree, Falsifying Business Records first degree, Defraud and Violation of Probation. He is currently hospitalized for a prior medical condition and will be arraigned as soon as medically practical.
