Lincoln Assassination Discussion
A discussion of the Assassination of President Abraham Lincoln: 150 Years Later will take place at the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Library, 7 p.m. The assassination of Lincoln has always been the focus of Civil War historians. Many of these same historians state that the worst thing that assassin John Wilkes Booth could have done for the south was to assassinate President Lincoln. Was this true? Why did Booth assassinate President Lincoln? Why did he recruit others to do other horrible deeds that day? Why did so many others turn down President and Mrs. Lincoln’s invitation to join them at Ford’s Theater that night? Where was President Lincoln’s protection that night? How was Booth tracked down and how did he meet his fateful end in Virginia? Join Professor Howard Ehrlich to find the answers to these and other questions surrounding the assassination of our 16th president. Please register at the reference desk or by calling 516-922-1212.
