The Varsity softball team completed the first half of their season with a 25-0 victory over Garden City.
The Lady Dawgs have been dubbed the “road warriors,” playing all nine games on the road while waiting for their home field to be ready to play on. It has been a grueling start to the season that has come with a lot of adversity, but the team battled through it all without making any excuses to get the job done.
Ashley Melendez is the county leader in wins with eight. However, the team’s chemistry and overall team play has been incredible and a major reason for their success at the midpoint of the season.
The Lady Dawgs were a pre-season number two seed, but are currently 8-1 and in first place atop the best conference in Nassau County Class A.
Over the spring vacation, the Lady Dawgs defeated Carey (the number one pre-season seed) 5-4 in a hard fought and well-played game.
The girls were very excited to play on their newly renovated field at their first home game last Friday, April 17 vs. Carey. Unfortunately, Carey defeated the Lady Dawgs 7-1, but the season isn’t over yet.
