A Jericho Check Mate

2015 National Junior HighWarren Wang, a ninth grader at Jericho High School, won sixth place at the 2015 National Junior High Championship held in Lousville, KY, recently. The championship saw 350 players participate in the kindergarten through ninth grade sections and 140 players battling for the coveted 2015 K-9 National Championship title.

Wang started to play chess at the age of five and has been coached by International Grandmaster Gennady Sagalchik. The Jericho chess player was also the runner-up in the New York State Scholastic Championship Elementary K-6 Division and K-1 Division in 2012 and 2007.

In this year’s friends and family chess tournament, run by the U.S. Chess Federation, Wang and his father won first place in the Father/Player category.
