Women In Folk Concert

Huntington resident Kirsten Maxwell, the witty Lois Morton, singer-songwriter Cecilia Kirtland and Rorie Kelly will be playing Garden City’s Our Times Coffeehouse. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. for ticket sales.

Singer-songwriter Maxwell, with a background in classical music, blends elements of folk, country and contemporary genres. She has been compared to Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell because of her thoughtful lyrics and distinctive melodies. Morton reinvented herself in retirement, going from being an educator and therapist to a singer-songwriter with a rapier wit and a surprisingly contemporary approach. Influenced by everything from Latin American folk music to Bessie Smith to the British Invasion. Kirtland creates music that comes from the heart and is influenced by many musical heroes from different eras and genres. Last but not least, Kelly is a small, redheaded “tornado of sound” who writes catchy, melodic rock songs that she plays with enough passion to break guitar strings.

The suggested donations are $15 adults and $10 students with ID; sorry, no pre-sales are available. Our Times Coffeehouse is in the Ethical Humanist Society building located at 38 Old Country Rd., two miles west of Meadowbrook Parkway next to the blue water tower. For more information, visit www.ourtimescoffeehouse.org or call 516-741-7304.
