Betty Pliskin Davenport, 86, longtime resident of Port Washington, died on May 8 at her home in Port Crane, N.Y.. She was predeceased by her husband Charles Davenport, brothers Leon and Paul Pliskin. She is survived by her sister Norma Raboud of Deland, Fla., daughters, Debra Davenport, of Port Crane, N.Y., Dany Davenport-Frigerio (Stephen) of St. Augustine, Fla., Dale Davenport-O’Connor of Port Crane, N.Y., six grandchildren, Elaine (Bill) Lawton of Cape Coral, Fla., Maya (Brice) Randall of Virginia Beach, Va., Nicolas Frigerio of St. Augustine, Fla., Shannon (Ivan) Shurtygin of Tallahassee, Fla., Alex O’Connor (Katie Hogan) of Somersworth, N.H., Charles O’Connor of Woodstock, N.Y., 5 beautiful great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and good friends. Betty grew up in Port Washington and attended the Port Washington schools. Among her favorite memories were picnics at the VFW, swimming at MICA beach, sailing on Manhasset Bay and the Long Island Sound, bowling at Bay Bowl, shopping at Lord and Taylor’s clearance center and spending a beautiful summer day at Jones Beach. However, Betty’s greatest love was the theatre. During her time in Port she was an active member of Port Washington Play Troupe, having performed in numerous productions. Betty, along with her husband Charlie, was the owner of LeRoy Upholstering Co. on Main St. in Port Washington until 1988, when they followed their dream and purchased a campground, Forest Hill Lake Park in Windsor, N.Y. Upon Charlie’s death, in 2002, the campground was sold and Betty settled in Port Crane to be with family. In Betty’s words, “The final curtain call, thus ending the drama of my life. Thank you to all my fellow players on my life stage. It has been a great run.” In lieu of flowers or donations, Betty requested that on a beautiful day you look up to the sky and think of her.
