Budget, Referendums All Pass

The proposed 2015-16 school budget has been approved by district residents by a vote of 741 to 207. The budget for the Bryant Library and three other ballot propositions were also approved.

The $103,851,841 budget represents an increase of 1.09 percent over the current year. The projected tax levy will rise 0.93 percent. Over the last seven years, the school tax levy has risen an average of 1.24 percent per year.

In the Board of Education election, incumbents David Dubner (675 votes), Adam Haber (648 votes) and David Seinfeld (602 votes) were re-elected. Challenger Mindy Kim received 481 votes.

In addition to the school budget (Proposition 1), the following propositions were also approved:

• Bryant Library (Proposition 2): Yes 736, No 208

• Proposition 3 authorizing the lease/purchase of two large school buses and three vans: Yes 711, No 218

• Proposition 4 authorizing the establishment of a new Capital Reserve Fund for long-term capital expenses: Yes 717, No 217

• Proposition 5 authorizing a $1.3 million expenditure from the 2011 Capital Reserve Fund for additional parking and field reconfiguration at East Hills School: Yes 663, No 187
