Sewanhaka Central High School District cosmetology students recently volunteered their time and expertise to beautify community residents as part of a fundraiser to benefit the Nassau County Firefighters-Operation Wounded Warrior (NCFF-OWW) organization.
The students offered haircuts, blowouts, facials, manicures and hair color to friends, family and members of the community for a small donation to the local organization, which supports wounded warriors. According to Cosmetology Instructor Maryanne Contarino, the students in the program were happy to help and often hold fundraisers to support local organizations.
“They are very motivated and very willing to give of themselves,” Contarino said. “We teach them that line of work is about being of service to others.”
In addition to helping others, the event also gave students an opportunity to experience a salon type atmosphere.
