Italian Mannerism: Bronzino & Parmigianino
With instructor Ines Powell, educator at Metropolitan Museum of Art, at the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library, 7 p.m. Mannerism is an art style that emerged in Italy about 1520 in Florence, overlapping with the last years of the Renaissance. Mannerist artists emphasized complexity and virtuosity over naturalistic representation. The paintings often display bright and unnatural colors, unclear pictorial spaces and distorted human figures. Bronzino was the leading Mannerist painter famous for his stylish portraits of the leading citizens of Florence. Parmigianino practiced a very personal and elegant form of Mannerism.
