Jennifer Cody Epstein, author of The Gods of Heavenly Punishment, visits the Syosset library at 7 p.m. to discuss her book and the life of a writer. Copies of the book will be on sale at this free, no registration required, event.

Title Swap With Librarians

Residents are invited to the Syosset library at 1:30 p.m., as librarians and patrons will share their favorite titles. You will leave with a great summer reading list. There is no registration required for this free event.

The Syosset library hosts Barbara Whiting, Economic Development Specialist from the Small Business Association, as she presents a free discussion at 7 p.m. on how local businesses can get certified to work with the federal government.

Celebrating The Centennials

Film historian Philip Harwood returns to the Syosset library at 1 p.m. for a free presentation on the many film stars and directors celebrating centennials in 2015. In this film series, Harwood celebrates the 100th birthdays of Academy Award winners beginning with vocalist/actor/recording artist Frank Sinatra in From Here to Eternity. The series continues with different topics on July 2, Aug. 6 and Sept. 3.

Joyce Tobkes hosts a free program from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Syosset library. This senior peer group will discuss facing come of the challenges of growing older. No registration necessary.

A Reality Check

Dr. Joe Kenner comes to the Syosset library at 2 p.m. for a discussion on current events. This seminar will take the form of a town hall-like discussion with plenty of time for attendees to participate and check facts about key current events.

The Syosset library presents a free multimedia look at the Smothers Brothers with Ira Epstein at 2 p.m. With their cutting edge comedy, they tested the boundaries of censorship in the US and paved the way for a new generation of TV comedy shows.

Want to go on a cruise? Go to the Syosset library for a free presentation by Joe Valenti, cruise lecturer, at 2 p.m. This is an informative and entertaining talk about planning, preparing, and selecting a cruise, and how to get the most out of your experience, including packing, shore excursions, communications, money matters and medical information.

Rehabilitation of Sagamore Hill

The Syosset library celebrates the re-opening of Sagamore Hill with a free 2 p.m. presentation by the historic site’s curator Susan Sarna. A discussion on the enormous undertaking of rehabilitating the Theodore Roosevelt Home, and the work involved in relocating and protecting the museum’s collection with this PowerPoint presentation.
