In celebration of “Be Kind to Animals Week” the Humane Society of New York, along with County Executive Ed Mangano, asked elementary school students in third-through fifth grades to enter its annual essay contest. This year’s theme was “If I had super powers what would I do to help animals?”
Two winners from each grade were selected from more than 1,200 entries.
Anthony Caturano, a fifth-grader at Our Lady of Victory School in Floral Park, was named as one of the winners.
Mangano, along with representatives of the Humane Society, awarded the winners with citations at a ceremony on May 26.
