Port Beer & Soda, at 152 Shore Road, has reopened with new owners. There will be a grand reopening celebration from Friday, June 12 through Sunday, June 14. The new owners are offering 10% off everything in the store during the grand reopening weekend, along with raffles and giveaways.

Stacy Galasso and John Schechter are the new owners of Port Beer & Soda. Galasso, who is originally from Great Neck, moved to Port Washington seven years ago. Schechter has lived in Port Washington all his life. He graduated from Schreiber High School in 1995. “We’re looking forward to reestablishing Port Beer & Soda in the community, said Schechter. “I’m a life-long resident of Port. I know the community and the people in the community.”

Schechter and Galasso have been working hard to renovate the store. They fully restored the original neon sign from the 1960s. The décor is industrial, with vaulted wood ceilings that give the store a warehouse-sheik atmosphere. “We used recycled wood and repurposed wood to create the décor,” said Galasso. “We were as green as we could be and [made the store] look great at the same time.” There is a rustic beer-tasting area in the back of the store.

The store is fully stocked with all types of beer and soda. “We have a huge craft beer selection. We have craft beers of all types that vary with the changing seasons,” said Schechter. “And we have a traditional beer selection.”

They also have a new state-of-the-art eight-keg growler system. “We can do plastic or glass growlers. The plastic is ideal for boaters,” said Schechter. “The growler system fills the container with beer and it sucks out the oxygen so it lasts a long time and tastes great.”

They carry seasonal products, including ice and charcoal, and gourmet sodas, said Galasso. “We also carry gluten-free beer and organic, gluten-free snacks. We’re mixing the regular soda staples and adding to that with a more interesting product line.”

Port Beer & Soda will have beer tastings on a weekly basis. “We will highlight a brewery of the month,” said Galasso. “The breweries will be coming into the store for events.”

Schechter and Galasso have already become invovled in the community by participating in recent events including Karmacue and Harborfest. “We live here. We are active here,” said Schechter. “We know the town.”

Port Beer & Soda offers free home delivery and marina delivery. They also offer wholesale accounts. The store hours are Monday-Wednesday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 12 to 7 p.m.
