Abrar Nadroo, a senior at Syosset High School, has received the Ezra Levy High School Science Award and was recently named a semifinalist for the Davidson Fellows Scholarship, one of the most prestigious high school scholarships in the world.

The Ezra Levy Award is given by the American Association for Clinical Chemistry to three or four high school students who conduct chemistry-related research projects that represent the highest quality of science education and investigation available. Nadroo’s research, titled “Toward a Novel Treatment for Corneal Fibrosis: Establishing a Biochemical Model of the Corneal Keratocyte,” was presented at a banquet held at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York on June 3 as a result of this award. Nadroo also received a plaque and a check for $200.

The Davidson Fellows Scholarship awards $50,000, $25,000 and $10,000 scholarships to extraordinary students who have completed a significant piece of work in a number of categories including science, technology, literature and philosophy. If chosen as a finalist, Nadroo will be invited to Washington D.C. for a special reception. The Davidson Fellows Scholarship program is run by The Davidson Academy of Nevada, a specialized school for profoundly gifted students.
