Usually mothers dote on their toddlers during the course of the day—but the tables were turned at North Shore Nursery School the week before Mother’s Day.
The two-year old class invited their moms to a first time ever “Mother’s Day Tea.” The children’s regular tables and chairs were transformed by springtime tablecloths and colorful paper goods to rival any traditional High Tea.
Along with their teachers, the children had been busy for quite some time coming up with surprises for their moms. Each child created a handmade card and a picture of their favorite flowers. Marigold seeds were sown and given time to grow. Every plant was then put into an individually decorated pot by every student.
The mothers in attendance—in addition to a grandma or two—were also pinned with a blue ribbon proclaiming “#1 Mom.” There were several tears of joy and gasps of wonder as the children presented their moms with their handiwork, which will all be keepsakes for some time to come.
The school is now accepting registration for September and is a not-for-profit Christian co-op school located at 90 Plandome Rd. in Manhasset. Students are admitted from any race, color, creed and national or ethnic origin. There are two-year-old, three-year-old and pre-K groups. Five day programs are available for all. There is also a July summer program with one-to-four-week options available. For further information, call 516-365-7244.
