Assemblyman Joseph Saladino was recently honored as Legislator of the Year by the New York Conference of Italian American State Legislators. Governor Andrew Cuomo, Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie were in attendance to present the award.
“This honor is representative of all the people on Long Island who have confidence in me and selected me to represent them as well as the legislators with whom I work throughout the year,” said Saladino.
Saladino has been a member of the Assembly since 2004 and represents residents of both Nassau and Suffolk counties. Perhaps one of the biggest highlights of his career, Saladino has been fighting for the protection of Long Island’s water by calling for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to hydraulically contain the Navy Grumman plume. The assemblyman has also been an active advocate for public safety by keeping drugs out of the hands of children and by supporting legislation to better protect Long Island by creating I-Stop legislation and laws to greatly reduce “doctor shopping.” He has done much to enrich pride in Italian-American heroes and strong Italian culture.
“I wish to dedicate this award to my parents, my Italian immigrant grandparents and all Italian-Americans on Long Island who built our communities and sacrificed to bring opportunity to all,” he added.
