Fireworks Spectacular At Jones Beach

The colorful display, performed by Garden State Fireworks, will take place on Saturday, July 4 beginning at 9:30 p.m. This year, WALK 97.5 FM and WHLI AM will simulcast music during the fireworks presentation. The fireworks are included in the regular price of park admission. This is a free event. Parking is $10 per car or free with your Empire Passport.

Independence Day Celebration

The Old Bethpage Village Restoration presents a historic way to celebrate America’s independence on July 4 and 5 at 10 a.m. Don’t miss out on this re-creation of a Long Island July 4th celebration in 1861, at the beginning of the Civil War, honoring the soldier recruits of the New York Volunteers. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for children and seniors. Children 5 and under enter for free. Festivities will include a National Patriotic Picnic (bring your own picnic lunch), band concerts and fiddle music, children’s games, rifled muskets firings and patriotic parade and ceremony.

Bereavement Support Group

Good Shepard Hospice Bereavement Services are open at no charge to anyone in the community who has experienced a loss through death with its Spousal/Partner Loss Group. Upcoming Bereavement Support Group, led by a bereavement specialist, takes place at Good Shepard Hospice Administrative Office, 110 Bi-County Blvd., Suite 114, in Farmingdale. Free Outdoor Concert

Good Shepard Lutheran Church, 99 Central Park Rd. in Plainview, presents The Park Brothers, a local neighborhood band unique in style, age and song choice, playing favorites on the church lawn at 7 p.m. There is no charge for this concert, but a free-will donation to help improve the school’s playground is greatly appreciated. Movie: Dead Poets Society

The Plainview library presents two showings, 2:30 and 7:30 p.m., of the film Dead Poets Society. When John Keating (Robin Williams), an unconventional English teacher at a private prep school, introduces his students to poetry, his free-thinking attitude and the liberating philosophies of the authors he discusses have a profound impact on his students. Robert Sean Leonard, Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles are also featured. 2 hours 8 min. Rated PG.

Venture out to the Plainview library and enjoy a fun afternoon of rock ‘n’ roll with The Mankind Band at 3 p.m. Formed in 1971 and still going strong, Mankind plays everything from Pat Benatar and Donna Summer to Adele and Lady Gaga and lots more in between.

Poolside Cocktail Party

The Residence Inn Plainview, 9 Gerhard Rd., hosts 7-In-Heaven Singles Events as it hosts a luau-themed Poolside Party. This event, from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m., includes a luau menu, special desserts and lots of dancing. More than 100 singles are expected to attend this cocktail party with DJ music, dancing and icebreaker games to mix things up. Seating will be arranged by age group: 32-46, 38-52, 44-59 and 54-69, but anyone at any age is welcomed to join. Event costs $37 in advance or $40 at the door. Cash bar. Heart & Sole 5K Run/Walk

Plainview and Syosset hospitals invite community members to join in a morning of fun and fitness at the 12th annual Heart & Sole 5K Run/Walk at Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School on July 19. The proceeds of this event will benefit the Plainview and Syosset scholarship funds, which will be awarded to students in the hospitals’ local communities considering a career in a medically related field. The fun begins with registration from 7 to 8:15 a.m. The children’s fun run will take place at 8 a.m., with the 5-kilometer jaunt commencing at 8:30 a.m. This event has been growing in popularity each and every year and with close to 600 runners and their families participating last year, the 2015 race is guaranteed to be a very large and exciting turn out. The run is being presented by the Greater Long Island Running Club. Any groups interested in sponsoring the run should contact 516-719-2418.
