Blankets line the lawn as classics such as Footloose, Marathon Man and Ghostbusters project onto a giant screen in front of hundreds of viewers munching on food from all different parts of the world. As the film begins, the crowd quiets—either laying back or sitting up—waiting to enjoy another night at the HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival. It’s fitting that Back to the Future is one of the films shown, because you’ll be wondering if you’re actually sitting in a DeLorean on your way back to 1985 with the old-fashioned drive-in feel.
The Summer Movie Festival started June 22 and will run every Monday night at 5 p.m. until Aug. 24. Bryant Park is located in Manhattan and runs from Fifth to Sixth Avenues between 40th and 42nd Streets. For more information, visit www.bryantpark.org/plan-your-visit/filmfestival.html. All movies are shown on the lawn at Bryant Park.
