The honors just keep coming. New York State Senator Michael Venditto recently joined forces with the Massapequa Community to initiate the first annual Detective Brian Moore Memorial Scholarship Tournament.
The tournament, in which 40 teams from various towns participated, was organized by the Plainedge Youth Baseball League in conjunction with the NYPD 105th Precinct, NYPD PBD, NYPD LBA and then Moore family.
A fun day of baseball at the Plainedge Sports and Community Center ended with a win by the Astros. The champions from the Levittown South Wantagh (LSW) division took home individual trophies and a large team trophy with the name of the tournament engraved at the base.
“It was an honor and a pleasure to have our boys participate in such a great tournament,” said the Astros head coach, John Lozito of Seaford. “I am proud of their sportsmanship both on and off the field and the level of dedication they commit to this sport week after week.”
Lozito’s son, John, plays first base and is also a pitcher for the team.
“I felt very honored and sad at the same time, but I was also proud when I put the NYPD police hat on my head,” he said.
