Locust Valley Twins Score In 5 Kilometer Run

Fifteen-year-old Locust Valley twin brothers Nicholas and Matthew Rizzo both won awards at the 12th annual Heart & Sole 5 Kilometer Run held on the streets of Plainview on Sunday, July 19.

Nicholas crossed the finish line at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle school in 21 minutes, 49 seconds, to earn the second place award in the 13- to 15-year-old age group, and brother Matthew was five seconds behind him to finish in third place in that age group.

A total of 482 runners and walkers successfully completed the run, notwithstanding the oppressive heat and humidity.

This year’s Heart & Sole 5K was held in honor of the dedicated nursing staffs at Plainview and Syosset Hospitals.

The Greater Long Island Running Club extends thanks to Michael Fener, the executive director of Plainview and Syosset Hospitals, and Dr. Alan Mensch, senior vice president of medical affairs at Plainview and Syosset Hospitals, for making the event a reality once again, and to Jim Baker, Nicole Santora and Jaclyn Donno of the hospital’s staff for their dedicated efforts in making it happen.

The race directors were Ric and Kathy Diveglio of the Greater Long Island Running Club.
