On Sept. 24 at 5:30 p.m. people will gather at the Gansevoort Park Avenue Hotel in New York City to help the children of St. Mary’s Children’s Hospital through the annual benefit, Cocktails With a Cause.
In attendance this year will be actor Stephen Baldwin, TV host Sandy Kenyon, Miss USA and Miss Universe, all there for friendship and support of the event. This year St. Mary’s will be partnering with www.kidsandcars.org.
There will be VIP guest speakers to help raise awareness of child safety in cars, from child backover accidents to heat deaths. St. Mary’s has an extensive child car safety program and both organizations will benefit from their relationship and the event.
Five years ago, Chris Savino inaugurated this Wall Street event to help the children of St. Mary’s Children’s Hospital. He became attached to the children after a good friend’s son was diagnosed with leukemia. His friend spoke to him about how the child’s spirits were lifted after getting out of isolation and playing with other kids. Hearing this, Savino passed up his winter vacation and decided to take the entire hospital to a hockey game. “They invited me back to the hospital and I was forever attached to these kids,” he said.
“No more am I [just] reminded of hearing [that] my buddy’s kid has leukemia; right now my dad battles the same cancer,” said Savino. “This event, my efforts, determination and drive, will be dedicated to my dad. For all those who know him, and most of you have taken the time to get to know him (so thank you), he will be looking for a packed house and a rocking time.
“My parents always taught me to help others in need. Reach out and help the less fortunate. Appreciate what you have, because there are so many in need. There are no more special kids than those at St. Mary’s and they need our help.
“I always say, to borrow the quote, ‘all kids need is a little help, a little hope and someone who believes in them.’” Visiting the hospital frequently, taking kids to concerts, and establishing bonds with some of the kids and staff has been an unbelievable experience, according to Savino.
Last year’s event raised $275,000 for these special kids. This year the goal is to exceed $300,000. This will not be possible without assistance from the community. Any help, suggestions, donations or auction items are welcome. So spread the word to any and all clients, friends, neighbors or organizations.
Tickets for the event are $200 per person.

Follow the event’s motto: “Remember…life is short. The best gift you can give someone is your time.”
