Project Milo, a Syosset-based student charity group that rebuilds and donates old computers, has just completed their latest project.

The Milo team recently donated a bundle of eight desktop computers to Cold Spring Hills Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Woodbury, while the Syosset-Woodbury Rotary contributed by donating eight new webcams for the elderly residents to use.

“We hope that the webcams will make it easier for the residents of Cold Spring Hills to communicate over Skype with distant relatives,” said Milo’s current president Ridoy Majumdar.

Bob Barinello, CEO of Cold Spring Hills Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Dr. Eileen Gentilcore, Syosset-Woodbury rotarian and Jennifer Ziegler, the rehab center’s recreation director, joined with Milo president Mujumdar and the Milo team including incoming presidents Ilya Yurchenko and Jourdan Smithwick, along with members Rushabh Mehta and George Chai for the presentation.

Project Milo is currently repairing computers to donate to the Mary Brennan INN in Hempstead and are preparing to implement a new “tech literacy” curriculum at Cold Spring Hills and the INN, where student volunteers will pair off with guests and instruct them on basic computer usage and skills.

Members of Project Milo dedicate their Sunday afternoons repairing computers and making them work like new with new components and software. Over the past few years, the group has donated 12 computers to the School for Language and Communication Development in Glen Cove, four computers to White Oaks Nursing Home in Woodbury and seven laptop computers to the Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled in India.

Project Milo willingly accepts all donations of unwanted computers, computer screens and computer accessories. Contributions can be dropped off at Astoria Federal Savings at 50 Jackson Ave. in Syosset—make arrangements by contacting Project Milo directly at project.milo1.0@gmail.com or 516-350-0961.
