Mark your calendar for the Cow Neck Historical Society’s 50th Annual Fall Country Fair on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Sands-Willets House. The fair will provide fun and entertainment for the entire family.
Enjoy live music performances throughout the day, a petting zoo, pony rides and storytelling for the kids, plus a Port Washington Fire Department truck and ambulance to explore. Also, see pottery-making, wool-spinning, the historic barn-turned-country store with antiques and jewelry for sale, a book sale, face painting, Revolutionary War soldier reenactors, art demonstrations, silent raffles, new artisans and craft vendors, games, prizes and a “jelly bean guessing contest.” Save your appetite for Lucy’s homemade pies, Dodge House honey, pickles and other food available throughout the day.
The Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society (CNPHS) engages people of all ages in programs that highlight the lifestyles of the people and families that lived and worked on the peninsula throughout the years. The activities of CNPHS and the maintenance of the Sands-Willets House, barn and grounds and the Thomas Dodge House are supported primarily through membership dues, voluntary contributions and the society’s fundraising efforts. Anyone interested in local history and in helping to preserve Long Island landmarks is invited to join.
Admission costs $5 for adults, $2 for children ages 6 through 12. Children under 6 are admitted free.
The Sands-Willets House is located at 336 Port Washington Blvd., two blocks south of Uncle Giuseppe’s. Plenty of parking is available.
