A 28-year-old man was fatally hit by a car while crossing a road in his hometown of Bellport over the weekend.
Suffolk County police said Juan Mejia was walking across Montauk Highway when he was struck by a westbound Volkswagen Rabbit west of Bellport Avenue at 8:11 p.m. Saturday.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was neither injured nor charged.
Fifth Squad detectives impounded the vehicle, are continuing the investigation and ask anyone who may have witnessed this crash to call them at 631-854-8552 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
