Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie Gets District Tour

Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages led a tour, through the 22nd Assembly District, for New York State Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie on Sept. 1. Heastie spent part of this summer touring upstate New York and Long Island. The speaker listened to the concerns and issues of members outside of the five boroughs of New York City.

Heastie says his desire to get to know New York State, including the 22nd Assembly District and the diverse communities within, is a great way to learn the concerns necessary to make the state better.

“Speaker Heastie was given the opportunity to see the spirit and diversity of the 22nd Assembly District,” said Solages. “Whether advocating for local business owners, substantial redevelopment or homeowners, Speaker Heastie now has a personal knowledge of the concerns of the district.”

Solages conducted a tour for the newly-appointed assembly speaker to highlight the different aspects of the district.

The tour of the district covered Valley Stream, Elmont, Floral Park and South Floral Park. Solages assured that Heastie understood the dynamics of the assembly district.

Heastie participated in numerous activities ranging from filling cannolis at Sapienza Bakery to meeting with local officials and constituents all to better grasp of the dynamics in the district.

“I was excited when I received notice that Speaker Heastie planned to visit the 22nd Assembly District, which I represent,” said Solages. “This was a great opportunity for local community leaders and business owners in the district to not only meet Speaker Heastie, but to also express to him personally their perspectives, concerns, and ideas.”
