Manhasset and Port Washington managed to eek out the last outdoor swim meet on Thursday, Oct. 1 at Port Washington Yacht Club. The girls were outside in the steady rain which made conditions extremely raw until the girls dove into the heated swimming pool. Parents dressed in down coats, shivered beneath the canopy as they watched the girls race in the 60 degree weather. Superintendent of Schools Charlie Cardillo came to watch the meet. “I can’t believe this is going on,” said Cardillo as went to support the Manhasset girls swim during the inclement weather.
The Indians won the meet and the special dedication to the senior girls was thankfully done indoors at the yacht club. The girls were able to change into sweats to receive their tribute from their coach and team.
The “little sisters” each presented their “senior sister” with a bouquet of flowers and a unique collage of photos on the poster sized letter of their first name to commemorate the senior’s swimming history with the team. Coach Matt McGrane and Assistant Coach Larke both have had a long history with each senior on the team, most of them earlier in their swimming career with Manhasset PAL when they were 8 and under. All of them swimmers for many years before they came to Manhasset High School.
The event was also tribute to the dedication and encouragement of these two fine coaches have had on these 10 girls and nice way to end the outdoor meet. For more photos visit the Manhasset Press facebook page.
