Carole McDonald Gilmour has joined the Parent Resource Center (PRC) as its new director of operations, taking over from the outgoing director Shelley Persaud. Gilmour will oversee the day-to-day management of the PRC as well as the administrative, financial and marketing operations of the nonprofit.

Gilmour said, “Since I’ve returned to live and work in my hometown a few years ago, I have seen how the demographics of our community have changed since my youth, but the core of Port Washington and its families has remained the same. We celebrate connection, diversity, education, fun and achievement in Port. I look forward to working with the dynamic and highly talented board members of the PRC as well as the families of our town and surrounding areas by openly engaging with everyone who enters our doors for every program and event and maintaining those connections as we all work together to improve the lives of our children.”

Gilmour graduated from Schreiber in 1985. In 1989, Gilmour graduated with honors from Marymount College of Fordham University with a degree in speech, theater and communications. A mother of three, the youngest a student at Salem, Gilmour has years of experience in communications, management, education and childcare.

Before starting her family, Gilmour worked at Howard J. Rubenstein & Associates Public Relations and then went on to become the engineering division office manager at WPIX-TV Channel 11. Gilmour served as the education director for the Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society, conducting tours for children as her colonial alter ego, “Miss Carole.” For the past two years, Gilmour has also served on the Pride in Port committee.

“Of all the jobs I’ve ever had,” Gilmour said, “being a parent is the one that I’ve been proudest of. I would love to be seen as both a source of support, inspiration and information for families who work with us in any capacity. As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child—and I am truly thrilled to help the PRC village in my new role.”
