Golf fans from Floral Park and many surrounding neighborhoods descended upon Clearview Park Golf Course in Queens to take part in the 19th Annual Our Lady of Victory (OLV) School Golf Classic on Friday, Sept. 25. The weather was picture perfect and about 100 golfers participated at the course.
The tournament was won by the foursome of Doug Hayden, Warren Hance, Dennis Lawrence and Steve McAllister. Other golf winners included: Jenn McGovern winning the Ladies Longest Drive, Jean Hill winning the Ladies Closest to the Pin, Kevin McGuinness winning the Men’s Longest Drive and Warren Hance winning the inaugural “Tom Hayden Memorial Men’s Closest to the Pin Challenge.”
Later in the evening, golfers were then joined by a much larger group of family and friends as they gathered at Plattduetsche Park Restaurant in Franklin Square for delicious food, raffles, auctions and music provided by Steve Wickes of One Sound Entertainment. There were many prizes, raffles and auctions throughout the day and evening. Some of the bigger prizes awarded included vacation homes on Long Island and Pennsylvania for weekends and weeks, golf foursomes at prestigious courses, Met and Yankee tickets, getaway stays at hotels like the Garden City Hotel and the Ritz-Carlton Battery Park, video games, restaurant gift cards, bicycles, barbecue grills and snow blowers.
An event like “The Classic” can only succeed with the support and contributions of the people and businesses in the OLV neighborhoods. More than 200 businesses and families played integral roles as sponsors and donors to the day’s events. For the 19th year running, OLV School’s largest fundraiser proved to be an enjoyable and successful event, due to their generosity. The chairpersons of this year’s Classic, Mary DiSanza, Larry Pugh, and Ed McCann were, once again, thoroughly impressed with and very thankful for the support displayed by our community.
On behalf of OLV Parish Elementary School, the parish, the Home School Association and the golf committee, thank you to those in the Floral Park community and beyond for again making this a memorable and successful event for OLV School. The 20th Annual OLV Golf Classic will take place on Friday, Sept. 30, 2016, so mark it down on your calendars and don’t miss next year’s festivities.
