The Saint Mary’s parish community gathered together at the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, Sept. 20 to witness the formal installation of their new pastor, Reverend Father Robert A. Romeo. The Very Reverend William T. Slater, Dean of the North Hempstead Deanery of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, officiated the standing room only celebration of the Eucharist and ceremony.
During the Rite of Installation, Rev. Slater formally introduced the pastor-elect to the community and read the Proclamation of the Appointment. Parishioners affirmed Fr. Bob’s appointment with joyful applause. Rev. Slater then introduced various members of the community who represented the entire parish and welcomed Fr. Bob by greeting him at the altar. Fr. Bob went on to sign the Profession of Faith and took the Oath of Fidelity. Msgr. John J. McCann, pastor emeritus, and Fr. Christopher Costigan, parochial vicar concelebrated the Mass, while the St. Mary’s Parish Choirs directed by Robert Levulis led the parish in song. The celebration continued in the Marian Room where parishioners, friends and family of Fr. Bob were able to share in the festive atmosphere and mark the occasion. Rev. Father Robert A. Romeo is the 12th pastor of the Church of Saint Mary.
