The seventh annual County Seat Kiwanis Bike Safety Day will be held on Sunday, Oct. 18, from noon to 3 p.m. on Beebe Road and Jericho Turnpike near Mineola Bicycle at 475 Jericho Tpke. in Mineola. Children must bring their own bicycle and helmet and be accompanied by an adult.
“Children love coming to his event,” Mineola Bicycle owner Barry Dworkin said. “Not only is it a place for them to learn and practice their bicycle safety skills, but it allows them to ride their bikes through an eight-station bicycle course.”
The event features a skills course for children ages 3-8 who can then complete an advanced obstacle course. There will be bicycle and helmet inspection, entertainment, pumpkin painting, bicycle registration and lost fund help from New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli. Contest winners of “Best Halloween Decorated Bicycle” and “Best Bike Safety Poster” can each win a new bicycle. Pickup free poster board at Mineola Bicycle.
“The event reminds children and adults that using helmets while bike riding is key to prevent serious head injury and or death,” Kiwanis board member Scott Fairgrieve said.
