Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D, WFP, I)
Delia DeRiggi-Whitton is the 11th District Legislator, incumbent.
I am the best candidate because of my unwavering focus on financial responsibility, protecting our environment and the well-being of seniors, veterans and children.
As ranking member of finance, I am a strong proponent of ensuring county budgets are spent wisely through diligent financial oversight and fiscal responsibility. I am intent on doing away with excessive contracts and sweetheart deals that are rife in our county and urge large vendors to commit to community reinvestment programs.
I am also passionate about the environment. I drafted and received unanimous approval on a bill preventing fracking waste product sales in the county, secured funds for sewering studies, co-introduced a Green County Bill pledging to reduce emissions and increase climate resiliency. I am working with state and other leaders on the L.I. Sound Restoration and Stewardship Act with up to $65 million a year in funding.
As ranking member of the health & social services committee, I am devoted to the health and welfare of every citizen. For example, I sponsor mammography vans for women without health insurance and veterans outreach programs.
I will always do my best to ensure our tax dollars are spent responsibly and our families and environment are protected.
Jeffery Peress (Green)
I am running for the 11th Legislative District primarily to protect the Green Party from being invaded by the two corporate parties. Under a loophole a candidate, without the authorization of the party, can steal the party line. The Green Party is against fusion candidates and I am a genuine Green Party enrollee. I am a lifelong resident of Glen Cove, a member of the Glen Cove Fire Department, past volunteer for the North Shore Sheltering Program and served as a board member of Congregation Tifereth Israel. I am currently a student at SUNY Old Westbury College.
The issues I plan to tackle include: Stop alienation of public land (Christopher Morley Park); eliminate red light cameras; abolish the Taxi and Limousine Commission and the Bureau of Parking and Traffic Violations; reduce the county portion of the sales tax; impose a transaction fee of $1 million or more on real estate; impose a two-tenths percent stock transfer tax; alternatives to incarceration for non-violent offenders and prevention; use of alternative energy in county owned buildings (solar, wind, tidal, etc.).
Matthew Connolly (R, C)
Matthew Connolly is running for Nassau County Legislator of the 11th District.
I live in Glen Cove with my wife and our 1-year-old son. I am an attorney in private practice and proudly served as an assistant district attorney in Nassau County for almost five years.
My wife and I chose to move to Glen Cove, buy a home and raise our family here because I believe in our city and its future. Glen Cove and Nassau County provide superior quality of life, but the high cost of living can be burdensome to many families. I am committed to fighting against tax hikes which drive up our cost of living. As your legislator, I will do everything in my power to maintain our quality of life while reining in unnecessary spending.
But economic issues are meaningless if we are not safe. Though crime is on the decline, there is always more than we can do to protect our city’s residents. My experience as a prosecutor makes me uniquely qualified to help keep our city safe and continue to lower the crime rate. I will work to ensure that our police officers have everything they need to protect our community. Public safety is my top priority and I work diligently to protect our city and our district.
I am not a professional politician, but someone who wants only to serve our community. Too often partisan politics stand in the way of achievement, and we, the citizens, suffer. As your legislator, I will never forget that I work for all of you and I will never lose sight of the needs of our community.
