LI2DAY Walk Raises Over $400,000 For Breast Cancer

LI2day_101415AThe 12th annual Long Island 2 Day Walk to Fight Breast Cancer took place on June 13, 2015. As a result of everyone’s hard work, the Manhasset Woman’s Coalition Against Breast Cancer (MWCABC), thirteen other breast cancer beneficiaries and four grant recipients received a combined $400,000. The event supports breast cancer research and essential outreach services and educational programs for women and their families affected by breast cancer on Long Island. One hundred percent of what is raised stays on Long Island.

The Manhasset Woman’s Coalition Against Breast Cancer is grateful to the LI2day organization for providing crucial funding for the Outreach Program. This year the program received $26,200, bringing the total received by the Outreach Program to $309,700 since 2005. The MWCABC grant allows the coalition to assist the women in our area who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, as well as support prevention, wellness and educational programs. The organization couldn’t do this work without them.

In 2014, Outreach served 81 breast cancer cases, delivered over 50 meals, provided transportation, wigs, financial support, household help and wellness services such as massage and acupuncture. The Outreach Program is on the front lines providing help to the women in need here and now.

The MWCABC would like to thank their 2014 LI2DAY team of walkers: Katrien Carbonez, Christine Roberts, Constance Parsons, Mia Hitchcock (virtual walker), Joanne Wilep, Elizabeth Macedonio, Juditlh A. Taylor, Monica Zenobio, Arda Haratunian, Kathleen Barry (virtual walker), Monique Koch, Blanche Fung Liu, Sabine Hairabedian, Kerian Carlstrom (virtual walker), Kathy Gray, Lezli Braswell, Andrea Malone, Linda Haase Kane, Mark Sauvigne and John Marx.

A special thank you to Christine Roberts, who was recognized by LI2day for raising over $3,000.
The Junior Coalition of the MWCABC also lent their support and cheerful spirit by organizing and manning a rest stop and water station for the walkers that day.
